This was my assignment

2. Sally, a student living in your dormitory, is a recklessly hard-living drinker and smoker who haunts clubs and bars throughout New York City. She used to be a quiet and shy agnostic individual, and choose to major in philosophy in order to discover how best she should live her life. Instead, she became disillusioned because of all the contradictory answers, and despaired of ever finding out the truth. Her “philosophy” lately has simply been to enjoy to the fullest all of the myriad pleasures offered by the city, those mentioned above and even more. In the last month she’s started to wonder if her current lifestyle is in error in some manner, but she can’t find any reasons why she should move in one direction rather than in another. Not only can’t she find reasons, she doesn’t even know whether it’s possible for her to change — she has this feeling that her life is out of her own control, and isn’t sure if she’s free to take charge of it. If you were able to dispatch your choice of the following philosophers to Sally’s dorm room, what would they tell her? Moreover, since Sally doubts the proofs of philosophy, how would they persuade her? Pick three of the following: Plato, Aristotle, a troika of Augustine and two adherents respectively to the Hebrew Scriptures and the New Testament (all three equal one choice), or a trio of followers of Epicureanism, Stoicism, and Skepticism (all three of these again equal one choice).

(My answer to this curious question)

Any comments?-Chris

It has come to our attention that the “attack” on the Ask Cheng! portion of the website may have indeed been a feint to cause us to be caught off balance when the real attack comes on the rest of the site. For this reason, we are upgrading the rest of the site (except the Ask Cheng! portion) to Warning Level Periwinkle status.

However, we would not wish to be fooled by reverse-reverse-psychology, therefore the Ask Cheng! section has been upgraded to Warning Level 42 status.

Regardless of any spam attack on this website, 42 is the answer to the question of life, the universe, and everything, so we’re confident that this is the right choice.
