As you can see, the original logo obviously has a very professional drop shadow. This is well known techniques used by thousands of the most highly trained graphic designers. Having such a long heritage, it’s hard to argue with the value of the drop shadow. Do you really want to disagree with someone who has a degree in art? Yes, but that’s not the point. To really understand the value of a logo, you must look much deeper within.
You can see that the original logo has the word Canadia very prominently. However, the new logo also has the word Canadia, and so matches the old one in effectiveness of expression of the word. One can hardly help but notice that the name Canadia is split into two on the new logo. It is split into Can, and Adia. This speaks volumes of the artists personal feelings. We can tell that deep down inside, he sense that Canadia is already a divided nation. It hardly seems like chance that the second part, “Adia”, is meerly one letter different from Asia. Putting this in perspective, we find “Can asia” which seems much like a question of “Can Asia?” This hardly seems trivial in light of the fact that approximately one half of Canadia is in fact of asian descent. It seems quite obvious that the artist is appealing to the asian faction to bring unity back to the asian-caucasin divide. Something which nearly slipped my attention was the presence of two microphones held by the people in the upper left corner. One microphone is obviously much larger than the other, signifying a more prominent voice in the community. This speaks of the lack of equality of the asian and caucasian voices in the canadiadian community.
In comparison, the original logo seems sterile, betraying a belief in the simplicity of seperation as propoganda support of apartheid. It is very obvious that the new logo is fitting for a nation going through such struggles as these. We can only hope that this new symbol will strengthen our people to a new unity.
