I’ve been meaning to post a what I’m reading section, but I haven’t gotten to it until now. Personally I find this sort of behavior in the aforementioned article understandable and abhorrent. The only question is how this will inevitably play out. I think David Berlind made the negative side of DRM in general evident in this quote:
I asked Zander if, in his role as a licensee that’s thrusting DRM-enabled products into the market, he didn’t think that we were on the verge of anointing another technology monoculture. The reason I asked this is that the number of handsets greatly outnumbers the number of computers and if everyone of them has either Apple or Microsoft’s DRM technology on it, the market penetration of a major proprietary infrastructure control point will make the Windows monopoly look paltry by comparison.

Anyways, I’m not prepared to make an educated statement on the subject of DRM in general. But here is a more technical explanation of Sony’s particular outrage and why it’s so ridiculous, regardless of whether or not you think DRM is a bad thing in itself.
