Yet again, our brave, fearless, brilliant slashcrap editors bring us this story: Sort Linked Lists 10X Faster Than MergeSort

In this edition of slashcrap, we have a link to a site made by some 14-year old programmer who happened to reinvent radix sort. Congratulations. If this were a social news site like digg, this would’ve been filtered far before it hit the front page.

Jeff Atwood rocks

It doesn’t happen often that I find a blogger that I regularly agree with. I even disagree with Raymond once in awhile. With Jeff Atwood however, I find my head bobbing up and down as I read his blog posts. His recent post called Because They All Suck hit the nail on the head about the Mac vs. PC debate. General purpose computers are never going to be perfect. You can please some people some of the time, but you can’t please all people all the time, especially when it comes to operating systems. I think this is one reason why Apple is trying to move towards the consumer electronics/entertainment industry. It’s a lot easier to produced a very narrowly defined, focused product that gets rave reviews.

Slashcrap: Quatum security!

Slashcrap article just came up: Scientist Make Quantum Encryption Breakthrough

I don’t even think I have to say anything. The description blurb for this story takes all the fun out of it. It’s like they were trying to be dumb.

Ok, quick primer for slashcrappians who don’t understand cryptography: It’s a solved problem. While individual protocols may fall to specific weak points, the problem of secure communication has been solved. Unless integer factorization turns out to be in BQP and we get quantum computers, RSA will not be broken.
